Home > The Sheep Dairy Industry

On average, around 5,500 sheep are milked in Australia on 13 commercial farms. The majority of dairy sheep farmers in Australia focus on manufacturing cheese and yogurt as commercial products rather than milk.

Just as in the cow dairy industry, unneeded  lambs are also tragically removed from their mothers and killed in order to harvest more milk for human consumption and to use in the production of cosmetic items like sheep milk soap. Some male lambs may be kept for several months before being sold for slaughter and human consumption.
